Home Who we are Background

Background

  • BADISA is registered as a non-profit organization (NPO 011-891) and as a public welfare organization (PBO 930 006 348)
  • The Synodical Commission for the Service of Compassion of the Dutch Reformed Church (Western- and Southern Cape) and the Synodical Commission for Diaconal Services of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (Cape) decided to amalgamate their social services programs in 2003, to a combined ministry, called BADISA.
  • The church's ministry in poverty and care goes back to 1950 when the first "Christelike Maatskaplike Raad" was established and in 1960 when the first Diaconal Services branch was established.
  • BADISA is a separate organization with its own body corporate.
  • The organization reports to the churches and the churches monitor the organization.
  • BADISA is a vehicle for the congregations' ministry for poverty and care and congregations need to take co-ownership of the programs.
